Singapore

Singapore city towering with skyscrapers, very high tech, arriving in Changi airport in Singapore, you sort of get the idea of how advance Singapore is in technology. The city is very clean. On arrival at the Marina bay Sands hotel we were ushered to VIP check in, in my mind I said ok, ok, I think I like this place.

Let me tell you about my first encounter with Marina Bay Sands hotel it was through a show called  “Amazing Hotels” on BBC Channel. They were featuring our amazing hotel “The Silo Hotel” that’s the mother of all hotels located in our mother city Cape Town, see what  I did there? That’s when I fell in love with the show and I was amazed by the Marina Bay Sands hotel and thought to myself if I ever get a chance to go to Singapore I would like to stay at the “Marina Bay Sands”

We arrived early at 12h00 and check in time is at 14h00 but they made it work for us, they found us a room that was in Tower 2 on  the 39th floor. We checked in immediately. We were asked when we checked in whether we prefer city facing room or a garden facing room,  I said “the garden please” and that was the best choice.

The room was very modern and clean. I liked how when you slot in the room card for the lights and the curtains opens automatically. We had uninterrupted views of gardens by the bay, at night they light up and they look like giant Christmas trees. When you look further, there are ships and boats on the bay.

There are many restaurants on the ground floor and more on higher levels.

The skypark that is where the Marina Bay Sands iconic pool is located. You can access it through tower one on level 57. It is the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool.  Each guest has to use his or her own room key card to access the pool, no key card no access. You really feel like you are on top of the world when you are in the skypark. The pool area has three sections for adults and one area for kids. There are jacuzzi in the skypark for hotel guests. There are lounge chairs under the palm trees, who knew you can have palm trees on 57th floor of a building? You can sit by the pool and order poolside drinks or snacks while enjoying the view. I never made it for sunrise only managed sunsets. Sunset by the pool are magical. There are light shows in the city every night, which are incredible to watch from the skypark.

We had high tea at Renku lounge. They have an amazing selection of tea. I love everything about high tea. They have different kinds of flavoured tea. My favourite was “marina pearls”

Club 55 is on level 55 in tower 2. It has spectacular views like the rest of the Marina Bay Sands hotel. We went for the wine pairing experience . The food was scrumptious, the service world class. The attention to detail to everything was phenomenal.

Marina Bay feels like a city on its own with all the tourist attraction places that are next to it. There are over 60 restaurants in Marina Bay, there is a shopping mall, a casino, a convention center and night clubs.
